Phola celebrates Heritage Day in style
Cultural lessons given to maintain the importance of Heritage Day.

Heritage Day is a day dedicated to celebrate and embrace the different cultures in our country.
The day is also known as Braai Day as people gather around for ‘braai’s’ and other activities. The Transversal Unit under the Emalahleni Local Municipality made two visits on this public holiday.

A commemoration event was held at Lynville Hall where young children were taught about the diversity of cultures, attires, food and why cultures should be preserved. The event was made merrier when the Sam and Joy Foundation gave a stellar dance performance.
The foundation stood out because it is a newly established foundation that gives children dance and singing lessons.
Another successful event that was celebrated was a Heritage Day celebration at Phola, Masakhane sports field.

The celebration was led by Inkosi Sipho Mahlangu along with local businesses that wanted to plough back into the community.
Various activities were done on that day, including soccer and netball games, dancing, poetry and singing.
Khayakazi Mvakwendlu, a representative from community development at Seriti Resources said that they were glad when Inkosi requested this day to celebrate cultures with Phola residents to unify the community through sports and other activities.
