Men are victims of Gender Based Violence too

Against violence against men and women.

Women’s Month is mostly aimed at empowering women and children. In most cases, men are left out and are not involved in such initiatives.

The Men’s Forum along with males in different sectors of eMalahleni came together to hold an event that will empower men on how to be better people in their community.

The event was held at the municipal chambers on August 25.

Various speakers at the event spoke about how men are affected by gender-based violence, how they can help other men who are victims of GBV, and how to fight against it within their communities.

The Premier of Mpumalanga, Refilwe Mtseni-Tsipane, and representatives from other districts and municipalities joined the meeting virtually to show support.

One of the most impactful guests shared her story of how she ended up serving years in jail because her late husband sexually abused her eldest daughter.

The speaker encouraged women to not allow abuse to affect their families, yet they should not take the law into their own hands.
