Elderly in Ga-Nala and Rietspruit can face the cold with Seriti winter care packs

Care packages for the elderly would help them for winters to come.

As part of its Mandela Day celebration programme, Seriti heeded the call by the founding father of our democracy, former President Nelson Mandela, to make a difference in the lives of those in need.

The Seriti team donated food winter packs to the elderly at the Rietspruit community, in Ga-Nala on July 30.

Many community members are faced with harsh living conditions, even more so due to Covid-19 which has increased job losses and crime.

The elderly received winter packs which consisted of a pair of socks, a beanie, a scarf, a mask, a hand sanitiser, two bars of soap, an energy bar, and a bag of oranges for Vitamin C.

The winter packs are ideal for the elderly as they need to brave the cold to go and collect their pension pay-outs.

“Half a loaf is better than nothing”, said Mr Jacob Mbatha, as he expressed his gratitude to the team on behalf of the elderly residents at Rietspruit.

He added that the food parcels will go a long way in ensuring that these families can put food on the table.

Seriti worked with host municipalities to address pressing needs and harness opportunities to create self-sustaining and empowered communities for generations to come.
