The MEC for Co-Operative Governance and Traditional Affairs wants to know what is going on in Emalahleni
Emalahleni Local Municipality is under the magnifying glass
There is tension in the corridors of the local municipality.
The MEC for Co-Operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mrs Busisiwe Shiba has called for an investigation into the Emalahleni Local Municipality.
The MEC has a lot of questions and will introduce a team of investigators on Tuesday, August 10 at 14:00 during a special council sitting.
Amongst others, the team will investigate allegations of maladministration, fraud, corruption, and other malpractices that the MEC sees as serious matters.
This investigation is launched under Section 106(1)(b) of the Municipal Systems Act.
In short, it states that if the MEC considers it necessary, she can designate a person or persons to investigate allegations of maladministration, fraud, corruption, or any other serious malpractices when it occurs or is occurring in a municipality.
Municipal Manager Mr Sizwe Mayisela said there is no tension whatsoever as this investigation was already in the cards since last year.
“The investigation will actually assist the municipality in settling issues of dispute in terms of interpretation of the legislation. We welcome the investigation,” Mayisela told WITBANK NEWS.
