Exciting, jam packed WAA news letter for August

Meet Kobus Campher, the owner of this fantastic F-16 radio controlled aircraft. Kobus started flying radio-controlled aircraft before he purchased a Cessna 206

This month’s news letter for Witbank Aeronautical Association is jam packed with exciting articles to read.

Here are a few exciting articles that can be read in this month’s news letter

1) “FFF”, the perils of first line maintenance…by Dr Robert Clark (Article written for the Experimental Aircraft Association Newsletter, August 2021) Aircraft engines are antiquated pieces of machinery.

They generally have push rods that date back to the days of the Buick motor vehicle built in 1903.

The ignition system is a magneto designed by Frederick Simms and Robert Bosch, and used in the 1899 Daimler Phoenix.

2) What Is Vno?

The FAA defines Vno in the Pilot’s Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge as “the maximum speed for normal operation or the maximum structural cruising speed.   This is the speed at which exceeding the limit load factor may cause permanent deformation of the aircraft structure.” The definition sounds a little clunky, right? As you’ll read about below, “the maximum structural cruising speed” gets confused with Vne all the time, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth.

3) Witbank Radio Controlled flying Club Meet Kobus Campher, the owner of this fantastic F-16 radio controlled aircraft. Kobus started flying radio-controlled aircraft before he purchased a Cessna 206.

There is so much more in this month’s news letter, so get reading.
