Thushanang United were the champions of the Youth Day soccer and netball tournament after beating Black Bees.
The tournament was held at the Lynnville Stadium on Wednesday, June 16.
In the semi-finals, Black Bees beat Likazi Young Masters 3-2 while United beat London Young Stars 4-3 on penalties after the match ended on 0-0 in a full match.
In the first half, both teams played a game of attacking soccer with Bees receiving two place-kicks, but nothing came out of them.
United surging their way forward looking for the first goal and had several chances, but all their attempts were fruitless.
United used the side of the field to wedge their attacks and they did all that was expected from them except to put the ball into the net. United pressed hard for an opener, but all was in vain in all their attempts. At halftime, the score was 0-0.
In the second half Bees tried their best to reorganise themselves seeing that United was overpowering them.
United was in the picture when in one of their attacks, the ball was crossed from the side and a player was just at the right time at the right place to bang the first goal with a header. United also had a chance to increase their lead when the ball went over the bar.
While everybody thought United were sailing through with the match, Bees came strong in the second half and were able to equalise to make it 1-1. Another attempt by Bees went over the crossbar.
United was back in attack when they score an easy goal to wrap the match after a corner-kick.
Awards for the player of the tournament, man of the match, top goal scorer and coach of the tournament were also presented.
The tournament was organised by Pastor Ray Mabena and his team and they thanked all the stakeholders in the tournament for their support to make it a success.
