Educators receive their first vaccine dosage at Witbank High School

During the proceedings, nurses were calm and friendly and made sure that no teacher went home feeling any side effects.

Teachers from different schools are busy with the vaccine rollout process at Witbank High School.

They were all saying they’re pleased to be vaccinated as they need to be vaccinated because some of them are living with high blood pressure, TB and other contagious diseases that might give this virus the power to spread and that is the last thing they want to see happen. The roll-out program for educators started on Wednesday, June 23 and teachers from different schools came in large numbers to receive their first vaccine dosage.

Primary Health Care Manager for eMalahleni Mr Oupa Mvula who is also responsible for the vaccine roll-out program said so far they have vaccinated 463 teachers and he is happy to see that the teachers are complying and willing to stand against this deadly pandemic.

He further added that since they started with this program, they haven’t received any complaint from the people who got vaccinated and the department of health is pleased and also hoping that more educators will get vaccinated.

Witbank High School principal Mr Oskin Umsinga said he was excited when the department of health asked him to allow them to use the school as the station for vaccine rollout for educators and he led by example; he became the first person to be vaccinated so that other teachers can feel free and follow his lead.

Some educators were not sure whether to take the vaccine or not, but nurse Lorraine Makamu, the vaccine project team leader explained the whole process.

During the proceedings, nurses were calm and friendly and made sure that no teacher went home feeling any side effects.
