Help needed with Alzheimer blankets

Ladies Circle In Formation needs your help to make fidget blankets for Alzheimer patients.

September 21 every year is World Alzheimer’s Day around the world.

This is an international campaign and Ladies Circle In Formation is already starting to plan to make a difference on that day.

“We want to make as many fidget blankets as possible. Fidget blankets are used to calm as well as entertain Alzheimer patients,” said Ms Amy Gallagher from Ladies Circle In Formation.

One of the ways that individuals with Alzheimer’s or dementia show anxiety or agitation is in their hands.

They will begin to fidget, restlessly pulling at clothes or blankets, wringing their hands, or rubbing their hands together. Fidget blankets are one way to help restore calm.

The organisation wants to donate fidget blankets to Eden Park Retirement Village, Immergroen Retirement Village, and other facilities in need of the handy blankets.

Fidget blankets can also be easily made at home. Ladies Circle In Formation needs the following to make these blankets:

  • Textured material
  • Buttons
  • Keys
  • Keyrings
  • Zippers
  • Beads
  • Light-duty Velcro
  • Small blankets

If you can help, contact Amy on 082 494 3002.
