Child Welfare SA aims to continue the fight against child abuse

The children were taught about their rights and responsibilities.

Child protection month continues as Child Welfare South Africa continues in their quest to enrich children’s lives by educating them about their rights.

Tiny Tots Academy had the opportunity to have social workers that would come and educate them on June 8.

The scholars were already seated and ready before the social workers came in. They were all eager to know more about their rights and responsibilities.

The school had also taught the children about child protection since the beginning of June.

Learners were able to engage with the social workers, and were not afraid to express themselves when it came to their rights.

The theme for Child Protection Week 2021 is: Let us protect all children to move South Africa forward.

Among many children’s rights in South Africa, the children were taught about their rights:

  • To a name and nationality from birth
  • To family or parental care
  • To basic nutrition and health care
  • To protection from maltreatment, neglect and abuse
  • To protection from exploitative labour practices
  • To basic education
  • To adequate housing

The school principal at Tiny Tots Academy, Veronica van der Merwe said that she was happy about the project made by Child Welfare as this was the first of its kind at the school.

“I believe that they brought the message clear to the children and they were very active. I could see that the children thoroughly enjoyed the presentation and the dance moves they learnt,” added Van der Merwe.
