Celebrating Joseph Palmer

Joseph finished his BCom degree in Accounting at the University of Pretoria.

Fannie Mavundla encouraged learners to take education seriously when addressing them during a celebration of the graduation of Joseph Palmer.

Joseph finished his BCom degree in Accounting at the University of Pretoria.

Fannie was speaking during the event at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Ackerville on Sunday, May 30 and said that discipline, commitment and being focussed will make them benefit in the future.

“My mother used to bake cakes and the cakes must stay in the oven for a long time in order to be enjoyed. You must also stay for a long time in school in order to enjoy the benefits of being educated. Forget about temporary happiness or shortcuts, do not rush, in the end, you will enjoy life and have a permanent job,” he said.

Guest speaker Mr Oskin Usinga and principal of Witbank High School started by thanking Father Linda Zwane for bringing a lot of changes at the church and being a champion of education.

He said Father Zwane was a symbol of light that brought a change in the city of eMalahleni. Mr Usinga got to know young Palmer while he was principal of Kopanang Secondary School and Palmer was a learner at the school and wanted to change schools.

He managed to convince him to stay at Kopanang. He said now was the time for him to shine after going through a lot of challenges at the university.

“You must be an inspiration to others, a lot of learners are going through a lot, others are involved in drugs and that is a recipe for a disaster. We are encouraging our learners at the school to read a lot and rewarding them for doing that. Reading opens one’s mind and we need to make education our priority. We need to give our children tough love for them to succeed,” noted Mr Usinga.
