Violence against men does exist

According to information, the father (74) and the mother (54) allegedly had a domestic violence dispute on the said day

As Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is making headlines every single day, the past week a few cases surfaced at Witbank Police Station where men were the victims of violence.

On May 12 Witbank police were summoned to a crime scene at Willow Crescent, Die Heuwel.

According to information, the father (74) and the mother (54) allegedly had a domestic violence dispute on the said day.

According to police their 21-year-old son arrived home and saw his father assaulting his mother, he intervened and he was also assaulted with a bottle on the forehead.

During the assault, the mother and son allegedly stabbed the father to death.

The mother and her son was arrested on scene and appeared in Witbank Magistrate’s Court on Monday, May 17 and the case was postponed.

In another incident just a week earlier on May 7, a man was rudely interrupted while sleeping.

It is alleged that the mother of his child poured boiling water over him as he went to sleep after an argument.

She was arrested by Witbank police on a count of domestic violence.

Another case was opened at Witbank Police Station on May 7 as a man came forward as he was allegedly beaten up by his girlfriend and her sister.

Although no arrests have been made, the police are investigating this domestic violence case.

“We as a community need to take hands with the police in eradicating all forms of domestic violence in our society,” the station commander of Witbank SAPS Brigadier Sifuso Cele concluded.
