Defending champions thumped

Dikwena scored their second goal to make it 2-0 and take the three points from the champions.

The defending champions of the Emalahleni Masters Football League Khelina Masters were taught a soccer lesson by Dikwena Masters.

Emalahleni Masters Football League is a social league, which consist of 14 teams based in and around Emalahleni, playing soccer matches on Sundays. They play at the different soccer fields of the city.

On Sunday, May 9 in one of the matches hosted by Coal City, Khelina Masters played Dikwena Masters at Pine Ridge Stadium.

From the onset it was evident that Dikwena were on a mission even though Khelina with their experienced players showed that they were not champions by default. Dikwena with their first attack were awarded a corner kick, but the shot went wide.

Khelina also has their share of opportunities, but Dikwena’s goalkeeper was up for the task.

A place-kick by Dikwena nearly resulted in a goal, but the ball was palmed over the bar by Khelina’s goalkeeper. The teams break for half time at 0-0.

In the second half both teams were looking for goals, but it was Dikwena who opened the score sheet with a goal after a player dribbled his way to score an easy goal. After that it was Dikwena all the way as they tried to open Khelina defence. Khelina tried their best to find an equaliser but their best was not enough.

A Khelina player had a chance inside the penalty area, but shot wide and they also get a second chance, but the shot was saved by a Dikwena keeper.

While the game was a marvel to watch, the referee had his share of controversial decision which nearly spoiled the match. At one point one of the Khelina players was sent off.
