SAPS worried about trigger-happy people in Vosman

In only three days two people were murdered and one narrowly escaped death when shots were fired at him.

Vosman Police has raised concerns about escalating murders and attempted murders in their precinct.

In only three days two people were murdered and one narrowly escaped death when shots were fired at him.

The police request the community to assist with information that may lead to the arrest of the murderers as well as the suspect that attempted to kill another victim.

“All these ruthless incidents occurred between April 28 and April 30,” said Capt Lizzy Mkaudi Vosman Police spokesperson.

The spree of violence kicked off on April 28 at Extension 18, KwaGuqa when a man escaped death when several shots missed him.

The man told police he was sitting inside his vehicle near his house while on his cell phone when suddenly an unknown man came in his direction.

The man then apparently pulled out a firearm and pointed it towards him.

He said he managed to open the door and manoeuvred his way to the ground as the suspect began to fire several shots on the left side of his vehicle.

“The complainant managed to run and took cover where he was able to summon for help. Police swiftly responded to his call and upon investigation, they discovered that 10 shots were fired at his vehicle,” Capt Mkaudi told WITBANK NEWS.

A 58-year-old man from Extension 1, in Empumelelweni was not so lucky. On April 30 Mr Dan Nhleko arrived at his house and parked his car, then, according to his daughter, relaxed inside it as usual.

Nhleko’s daughter told police that she suddenly heard a gun sound blasting twice and she quickly went outside to check what was happening.

“She then realised that her father was shot and when she checked around who might have shot her father, she saw a man jumping over the wall,” Capt Mkaudi said.

A little later, on the same day, Mr Zwandile Mphego was stabbed and found injured next to the toilet of a tavern in Vosman.

He was transported to the hospital, and unfortunately died as a result of his injuries.

In all these incidents, no suspects have been arrested.

Anyone who has information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects is requested to contact the branch commander of the detectives at Vosman, Lt Colonel Solly Thobejane at 082 372 2195.
