Woman power through self-love

Psychologist Sonto Masilela enlightened the attendees with her presentation. In her presentation, she spoke of the different animals and how their nature can also be found in humans

Female officials from the Department of Correctional Services in the Witbank management area gathered to address gender-based violence issues through self-love. The event was held on Thursday, October 15 at the Witbank Recreational Hall. The Woman2Woman Colloquium was attended by not more than 50 ladies to empower one another through motivations and quotations. Ladies from the Area Commissioner’s office, Witbank, Carolina and Belfast centres and community centres attended the event draped in pink. Pink was the theme in support of Breast Cancer Month.

The Acting Area Commissioner, Reverend Leomile Mangoedi, who was part of the organising committee for the event told the ladies that self-love begins with you, “loving yourself means you can say no to other people when you feel that you are unable to fulfil their expectations. Don’t please other people whilst you are dying inside, set boundaries,” she reiterated.

Part of her speech informed the attendees that gender-based violence statistics are on the rise especially since the outbreak of the pandemic.

Psychologist Sonto Masilela educates the ladies which animal character is needed for which situations.

She addressed the attendees, “our theme, self-love speaks to that, loving yourself. It has nothing to do with egoism and arrogance. It has nothing to do with competing with men or other women. It has all to do with feeling good, self-appreciation, taking care of yourself and telling yourself something positive every day.”

Psychologist Sonto Masilela enlightened the attendees with her presentation.

In her presentation, she spoke of the different animals and how their nature can also be found in humans.

“We have the shark which is dangerous, powerful, dominant and a go-getter, secondly we have the fox which is sly, smart and cunning, the third being the bear which is relaxed, adapting easily and more of a comfort animal, we have the turtle which is quick to withdraw and slow in doing things, finally we have the owl which is disciplined, task-oriented and meticulous,” she said.

The women left with much wisdom and a lot to think about.
