Witbank Police Station lost a member

He was the head of support services for three years and was loved by all members he worked with.

The sudden death of Col Bafana Cornell Mhlanga shook the whole Witbank Police Station and community members as it was announced.

Col Mhlanga was a well known SAPS member as he served 34-years in the South African Police Services before he passed away on July 25.

His death left his family, friends and colleagues in disbelief as he was still in good spirit the day before his sudden death. At this stage, the cause of death is unknown until the post mortem is concluded.

He was the head of support services for three years and was loved by all members he worked with.

His journey as a police officer started in 1986 at Kanyamazane Police Station until 1996, he then went to Matsulu Police Station.

In 1998 he worked at the then – Area Commissioner’s Office in the Lowveld until 2004 and got transferred to the Provincial Commissioner’s Office where he worked at the auxiliary and finance services until 2017.

Colonel Mhlanga Bafana Cornell was transferred to Witbank Police Station where he was Head of Support Services until he met his untimely death on July 25. Mhlanga was initially admitted at hospital on Friday, July 24 and unfortunately died at the age of 53-years old.

“At this stage, we are not at liberty to divulge the sickness that caused the precious life of Colonel Mhlanga as that is not our principles as the police because that is the doctor and patient’s confidentiality. We send our sincere condolences to the Mhlanga family and colleagues. Mhlanga was a hard worker and his passing away is a huge loss to the entire police family as we were expecting young upcoming police members to still learn a lot from this gallant fallen manager, may his soul rest in eternal peace,” the Provincial Commissioner of the police in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma concluded.
