Meet the two animal-fanatics spending nights in the SPCA kennels to raise much needed funds

Meet the two passionate people behind the #KeepThemCagedIn Witbank SPCA fundraiser.

Dr Nolan Landman and Liz Oberholzer have become household names.

These two animal lovers set out on a fundraiser and pledged to sleep in dog kennels at Witbank SPCA at night for every R5 000 donated.

What nobody anticipated is the generosity of the public that propelled that amount to over R100 000.Doc Nolan and Liz slept in the kennels for the past five nights.

Tonight will be a real test as the temperatures already plummet to a shivering 10 degrees C.

But who are these two animal-fanatics?

WITBANK NEWS got some answers from them in a sneaky way.
See, they have tasks to complete with their four-legged companions at night and a questionnaire mysteriously made its way into the kennels, and here is what we got.

Liz is 46 years old. She has been a resident in the City of Coal for 36 years.

Favourite food: Pasta, veggies, chocolates, crisps, and cheese.
Hobbies: Spending time with dogs that has emotional and trust issues.

Liz has four pets, three dogs called Sky, Mojo, and George and a cat called Missy.
She slept under the stars before but we don’t know if she enjoyed it.

Once she was told she was eating chicken and in the meantime, it was crocodile.

She said if she could choose to be an animal it would be a rhino or a horse.

Here is how she describes herself in a paragraph: “I found my soul when I got involved with caring for animals at Witbank SPCA. If you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love. If I put my mind to something, it is going to happen. God does not require us to succeed, He requires that I keep trying and never give up. Animals are the beat in my heart.

Doc Nolan is 40 + 12 years old (that is what he wrote on his questionnaire).

He has stayed in eMalahleni since 1987.
Favourite food: Biltong, delicious steak, and a good old pizza.

He loves all adventure sport and added his ‘boepie’ might be a little problem in certain sport codes.
Animals: “Come to the farm for an introduction. Let’s braai and you can meet them all.”

He slept under the stars before and has tasted Mopanie worms, “It does not taste all that bad.”
Doc Nolan said if he could be an animal he would be a ‘meerkat’.

His motto in life is very simple “Give up, give in all give it your all.”

This is how he describes himself: “I was born in the Kruger and my mom says they found me in the Kruger. We relocated to eMalahleni at the age of seven, so I grew up here. After I completed my studies at Onderstepoort I moved back to eMalahleni. I love the farm life and the great outdoors. Want to know more let’s get together for a braai!”
