The latest slew of drug arrests

The Witbank SAPS have arrested another batch of alleged drug users, and dealers and stemming the tide of the drug issue eMalahleni is facing.

On May 17 a guard at Paxton Correctional Services discovered one of the prisoners was hiding drugs under the bed sheets in his cell. The guards searched the cell and found 17 pockets of drugs, a cell phone, and an IPad hidden between the prisoner’s sheets. Apparently the prisoner did not share a cell with anyone at the time making him the only suspect.

On the same time at the informal settlement on the other side of town, several more drug related arrests were made. Witbank SAPS members patrolling Spring Valley found a suspicious looking man in the streets. They searched him and found him to be in possession of a bag of dagga.

The police made the arrest at about 02:00 according to reports. At about 15:30 another arrest was made in Spring Valley where a suspect was found with drugs, apparently worth a large sum of money.

Recently The Drug Action Committee held another meeting to discuss programmes aimed at preventing drug usage and education on the dangers of drugs. The Witbank SAPS, as well as the Ogies SAPS are stakeholders in the committee.
