Nkangala TVET students get a visit from NSFAS

Students believe that the visit was not related to the grievances they have been protesting for such as the lack of NSFAS allowances distributed to students

National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) representatives visited Nkangala Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College eMalahleni campus students.

The meeting took place at the eMalahleni Civic Theatre on Tuesday, March 10 from 10:30.

Students believe that the visit was not related to the grievances they have been protesting for such as the lack of NSFAS allowances distributed to students.

The representatives were allegedly chased away when students began to sing toyi-toyi songs.

Student Representative Council (SRC) academic officer, Lebogang Mokoena, said that all students asked the NSFAS representatives questions relating to the lack of distribution of allowances.

“They did not give us answers regarding how students are supposed to be productive when they do not have funds for food, transport, accommodation and other necessities. They did not give us any answers on when we will get our allowances,” Lebogang explained.
