Biker kicked to the floor on Worker’s Day

Mr Willie Nell was rushed to hospital after he was kicked from his motorcycle, and allegedly beaten.

Paramedics rushed to the scene where Mr Willie Nell lay after being knocked from his motorcycle by an angry motorist on May 1.
Nell and his wife Lana were riding alongside their son; the family were travelling along OR Tambo when an accident occurred.
“We came from the chemist and saw four taxis and a blue Hyundai Atos parked just passed the intersection, we saw a bike laying on the ground,” said Ms Cornelia Vermaak.

Vermaak walked over to the McCarthy garage for a closer look at what was going on, when she allegedly saw people from the taxis attacking the motorcyclists.
“I saw the guy trying to get back onto his bike when the driver of the blue Atos kicked him off the bike, he fell to the ground hitting his face on the sidewalk,” continued Vermaak.

Another witness to the scene, Ms Ansie Conradie said that she came around the corner and saw the Atos parked in front of the motorcycle which was lying on the ground. “It looked like the guy was bumped off his bike,” said Conradie.

Conradie witnessed the driver of the Atos and Nell quarrelling, a fight allegedly broke out between the two men.
“By that time we had just driven passed them and decided to turn around, when we saw a number of taxis stop next to the fight,” said Conradie.

Conradie then proceeded up to the Caltex garage having remembered seeing motorcyclists there, they called them for help explaining what had happened and they returned to the area where the fight had broken out.

“They were gone and the man lay on the ground,” said Conradie.
Paramedics from Langamed Emergency Management Services and JD Med arrived on scene to tend to Nell who had suffered from a broken nose, as well as a number of lacerations.

Nell was transported to Life Cosmos Hospital and was unavailable for comment.
