Car in a wall on Ina Avenue

Police and paramedics arrived on scene to find that a silver Toyota Corolla had ploughed through a wall.

On May 1, at about 21:30, a loud crash was heard as the Toyota crashed through the outer wall of Chris Lamprecht’s house on the corner of Ina and Nita Avenues. “If it had been warmer we would have been in the pool when he crashed through our wall. Luckily we were all inside at the time,” said Mr Chris Lamprecht.

Bricks from Lamprecht’s wall were strewn all over his yard, some had hit the pool pump, breaking it, while others landed centimetres from the house. “The driver stumbled as he got out the car and sat down next to the wall. He said he was driving at about 20km/h when he answered a call on his cell and the collision took place,” added Lamprecht.

Police and ambulance services arrived on scene, the driver of the Toyota Carolla was taken by police to hospital to have his blood alcohol levels tested and a case of reckless driving was opened.“Apparently he had only one beer,” laughed Lamprecht.

Lamprecht was informed that the driver’s insurance would cover the accident, however he had to pay for the repairs to his pool pump himself, setting him back R1 700.

“It was negligence,” said Mr Thayalan Padayachee, the driver of the Toyota Corolla. Padayachee was released on R1 000 bail, and according to Lamprecht’s research it isn’t Padayachee’s first offence, he has previously taken a traffic light out in Middelburg.

Padayachee did not wish to comment further.
