Police apprehends suspects an hour after robbery

Two robbers of a gang of five did not have time to even look at their loot before they were caught and cuffed.

On Wednesday, November 13 Witbank SAPS had the two suspects behind bars within an hour after the robbery.

The suspects robbed a sports wear shop in the (CBD) Central Business District at around 10:30.

“The suspects pointed the staff of the shop with firearms and forced them to the back of the store. They then robbed the shop of several cell phones and sports clothing which they packed in two big sports bags. The suspects ran out of the shop while firing three shots in the air and left the scene,” said provincial spokesperson Brig Leonard Hlathi.

Witbank Visible Policing, the Detectives’ Trio Task Team, Crime Intelligence, Middelburg Highway Patrol and a private security company of eMalahleni followed up information about two of the suspects that were hiding in Vosman area.

At 11:30 the police had enough information and conducted an operation in a house in extension 18 at Vosman where they managed to arrest the two suspects who were also involved in the business robbery.

A Norinco 9mm pistol with ammunition as well as 82 cell phones worth R300 000 were found.

The two suspects appeared in the Witbank Magistrate’s Court on November 14 on charges of robbery with aggravated circumstances and the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
