Woman appeared for alleged assault of 13-year-old

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma, has applauded the women for working together with the police in the fight against crime and not taking the law into their own hands

The suspect who has been identified as Matshidiso Mtsweni (35) appeared in court for allegedly assaulting a 13-year-old boy.

Both Phola SAPS and the Mpumalanga Provincial Commissioner released statements on Thursday, September 19, stating that the suspect appeared in Ogies Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, September 18.

As reported preciously, the mother of the victim opened a case of assault on Tuesday morning, September 17.

Mtsweni was arrested on the same day accompanied by women of the Waya Waya Community Movement and women from the community.

The women were alerted by the circulation of a video on social media.

In the video, you can see a boy being assaulted by a woman and some young boys.

The boy broke his hand and fainted due to this incident.

During her court appearance, Mtsweni was granted bail of R 500 and the case was postponed to Tuesday, October 8, pending further investigation.

She is facing charges of assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm.

WITBANK NEWS previously reported that a quarrel between the victim and suspect’s son lead to the assault.

Waya Waya Community Movement President, Pastor Chippa Mtsweni, confirmed that women belonging to the movement did bring forward the suspect and that they were together with other women from the community.

He said: “As a community, we are not happy about the outcome of the court appearance of the suspect. The woman really hurt the child and she is seen on the video carrying a panga. What was she going to do with it?”
