Relatives of Sipho demand answers after his gruesome murder

The victim was said to have been stoned to death and declared dead on the scene.

In the early hours of Saturday, May 11 at around 03:00, Witbank SAPS received information of an unknown African male who laid in a pool of his own blood at Allenby Street down town.

Upon arrival at the scene the investigating officer found that the male had sustained severe head injuries believed to be from stones which were found next to the body.

The victim was said to have been stoned to death and declared dead on the scene.

Police were being told by bystanders on the scene that the body was dumped there from elsewhere, but no one was willing to make a statement under oath towards this regard.

The male later identified by his cousin as Sydney Sipho Mayika, (38) was originally from Limpopo and had came to eMalahleni to look for work while he stayed with his uncle in Coronation.

Speaking to WITBANK NEWS, Mayika’s cousin Francine Tedeila said from what they were told, his cousin was involved in a fight back in Coronation which was witnessed by some locals.

“We were called by a neighbour who told us that Sipho had passed on from a fight,” she said.

The news sent shock waves to the family as Mayika was not known to be a violent person,

“we really want to see the person who killed my cousin in such a horrible way behind bars.”

“I would be lying if I said he was a violent person because he was not, instead he was very peaceful. He came to the city because he was looking for a job, so for such a thing happening to him, he did not deserve it,” she added.

“What we want to see is justice served for his murder now, currently we are waiting on the post mortem report from the doctor so we can begin making arrangements for the funeral.”

A case of murder is being investigated by the police and the members of the public who might have information which will lead to an arrest, are encouraged to come forward.
