Caddy syndicates drove into their own arrest

After gathering more information it was confirmed that it was the vehicle being sought as it was used by the occupants for stealing spare wheels

During the past year members of a syndicate travelling in a white Volkswagen Caddy have been going around eMalahleni stealing vehicle spare wheels at shopping centres and business parking lots.

On April 20 a syndicate was scouting for a vehicle at the Greenpoint Shopping Centre when a South African Community Crime Watch (SACCW) responder, Stanley White spotted the suspect vehicle.

After gathering more information it was confirmed that it was the vehicle being sought as it was used by the occupants for stealing spare wheels.

SACCW responders then started to follow the suspects from the above mentioned location to the Bethal Road where the suspects realised they were being followed.

A chase ensued between the suspects and SACCW responders up until the N4 highway.

In the meantime the operations coordinator from SACCW, Ms Maureen Scheepers gave all the information to Witbank SAPS while another responder contacted Bronkhorstspruit SAPS as they were heading in that direction.

The suspects drove into the hands of Bronkhorstspruit SAPS on the R104 road where members of Witbank police detained the three suspects and impounded the vehicle used to commit these crimes.

At Witbank Station it came to light that they needed owners with valid case numbers linked to these crimes to come forward.

SACCW immediately sent out a notice urging victims to come forward.

Three owners with concrete evidence of CCTV footage came forward, linking these syndicates to the crime and in the meanwhile four additional cases were added for investigation.

Witbank SAPS urges the public to come forward if they were a victim of this crime and have valid case numbers to support their ongoing investigation.

The three suspects briefly appeared in Witbank Magistrate’s Court on April 23.
