Nyathela Art Works breaking boundaries

The show broke forth boundaries that suggest that acting

Nyathela Art Works promised and indeed broke the boundaries by staging the dance show ‘I stand Tall’.

The open show under the blue and red sun setting sky of eMalahleni opened the eyes of many theatre lovers.

The stage was set at the Izodela Community Centre on Saturday, February 16 and it blended well with the play.

As Nyathela Art Works said they want the community of eMalahleni to be part of a new era in arts and theatre.

The show took a different direction to show that acting is for everybody.

The show broke forth boundaries that suggest that acting is only for certain kind of people and should only be showcased at specific locations.

It was invigorating and everybody that attended the show clearly observed that.

It should be noted that diversity in casting extends beyond ethnicity, age and gender orientation.

The actors were given an opportunity and they took it with both hands. They displayed the human experience for actors.

Artistic director Moses Moe Muyela, explained that the show received support from National Arts Council.

The show – a dance work, reflects on the lives of youth living with disabilities and the manner in which society responds.

Seeking further understanding and empathy, the work is about possibility, unbroken spirits and a celebration of individuality, humanity and capability.

Most strikingly, the performers included youth with different abilities.

The acting in the show is out of this world and will be shown in different places of eMalahleni.

The raw talent displayed which has been turned into a unit speaks volumes of the actors and their talents and blended well with the music.

The show will be staged in other venues in Johannesburg and the National Art Festival at Grahamstown.

Muyela encourages people to come see this amazing piece of work that will bring hope and change people’s perspective about disability.

The show is choreographed by Theodore Tshepo Mohlala, Mthobisi Morgan Soko, Otsile Izzy Masemola and Lesego Dihemo.
