Open day angling competition a huge success

Team Magic Maker won the Langamed R3 000 cash prize, taking first place in the Wolvekrans Angling Club Open Day Competition.

The club hosted a day competition of angling on their waters along the Olifants River on April 12.
Anglers set their rods in from as early as 08:00 and lines were out by 15:00. While the weigh-in was being conducted, the anglers were kept entertained as a bit of fun and games was had along the water’s edge.

Teams were called upon to sing for glory and spirit, spot prizes were given to those that joined in and a number of lucky draws were held, awarding winners with bait packages, caps and other items.

Once the final weights were tallied, it was time to announce the winners.
Team Hendrik, comprising Diederik Erasmus and Hendrik Lerm came in third place taking home R1 000 in cash, in second place was team Chase, comprising Berné Smith and Hans Deysel, they reeled in a whopping R2 000 in cash.

First place was awarded to team Magic Maker, Izak Barnard and Niekie Myburgh returned home to Bloemfontein with the grand cash prize of R3 000.   “I would like to thank all our sponsors for jumping on board, thank you everybody for making this day a huge success,” said Mr Thomas Holder, chairman of Wolvekrans Angling Club.

Word on the waters was that the anglers enjoyed the day and a lot of high spirits were seen, there was even an award for the team with the most spirit. It went to the team of Magic Anglers, Shaun van der Walt and Cobus Ludeke, as part of their win the guys sang ‘Sanie Sout Sleep’ to give everyone a laugh.

Anglers from as far as Johannesburg, Pretoria and Bloemfontein came to Wolvekrans to take part in the competition and were met with a warm welcome, a good day of angling and good spirits.

Keep an eye out later this year when Wolvekrans Angling Club will open their waters once again to the public in another open day competition, but until then keep angling and keep safe.
