EFF opens cases at Witbank Police Station – Accuse former municipal mayor of fraud

Members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have opened up a criminal case of fraud against former executive mayor Ms Lindiwe Ntshalintshali and municipal manager Mr Sizwe Mayisela.

Members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have opened up a criminal case of fraud against former executive mayor Ms Lindiwe Ntshalintshali and municipal manager Mr Sizwe Mayisela.

The case was opened at Witbank Police Station by Mr Collen Sedibe provincial leader of EFF on Wednesday, October 17.

EFF alleges that on March 1 this year Mr Mayisela acting as municipal manager of the local municipality together with Ms Ntshalintshali adjusted the remuneration package for Mr Mayisela under false pretext to midpoint remuneration package.

According to the EFF Mr Mayisela’s term of office expired on February 28 as an acting municipal manager but was extended by the former MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Ms Refilwe Mtsweni

“When adjusting the remuneration package, Ms Ntshalintshali and Mr Mayisela adjusted the remuneration package to the maximum and not the midpoint as they purported. I require that the SAPS must investigate the matter and the National Prosecuting Authority to prosecute the two individuals for committing fraud against Emalahleni Local Municipality and misleading the Emalahleni Municipal Council,” added Mr Sedibe.

Mr Kingdom Mabuza, Emalahleni Municipality communication officer in his respond to the opened cases said the time of the upper limits remuneration package was signed, the contract of Mr Mayisela has not expired as alleged by the EFF.

Mr Mabuza said Ms Mtsweni had already extended Mr Mayisela’s term of office.

“According to the Municipal Systems Act Section 60 Ms Ntshalintshali had delegated powers to determine or alter the remuneration benefits or conditions of the municipal manager and manager directly accountable to the municipal manager. It can be done based on years of service or academic qualifications. The mayor has the power to do so and it is lawfully according to the act,” added Mr Mabuza.
