Spurs return home with the points

Witbank Spurs clashed with Baroka FC this weekend and came home victorious.

Spurs played their away game at Peter Mokaba Stadium on April 6 in Polokwane.

“It was always going to be difficult playing them since they are vying for a play off spot and we managed to come back with all the points,” said George Khumalo, Spurs PRO.

Thanks to the efforts of Patrick Mubayiwa in the second half, and that of the team, Spurs were able to return with the three points in hand for their win over Baroka.

The technical team came up with a plan which was spot on. Baroka started off well pressing Spurs, however Spurs’ defence of Lindokuhle Nkambule and Victor Ngunyule held the ground and the match went into half time without a single goal being scored.
In the second half, Spurs started dominating with the Mubayiwa twins and Dumi Gamede giving Baroka a hard time. The introduction of Dumi Tau increased the pace of the game.

“We were rewarded in the 76th minute after a good move by Tau, Gamede and Patrick Mubayiwa who scored,” added Khumalo.
“Baroka tried their best, pressing for the advantage against Spurs but Nkambule was at his best alongside our Value Meat March player of the month Victor Ngunyule.

“Spurs would like to state that the rumours that the team is on sale or our players went on a strike are untrue. We represent the hope of the upcoming youngsters who want to realise their dream of playing at the highest level. Our supporters need not to worry as the team is staying strong, at home,” ended Khumalo.
