Erecting a fence according to some was a good initiative. Others beg to differ. Last week an article was published with feedback from the municipality and the police, stating that no activities were planned here.
Spontaneous parties popped up all over the show, with law enforcement, the police, SACCW (South African Community Crime Watch) and CPF (Community Policing Forum) having to try and bring the situation under control.
Mr Kingdom Mabuza, municipal spokesperson said:
“Klipfontein Dam is still under renovation and reports of the chaos which happened there over the weekend are uncalled for. People forced their way into the facility and our law enforcement and involved security company which patrols the facility tried their level best to stop the situation from developing into unnecessary confrontation. It is disturbing that every time when a group of people decide to go to Klipfontein Dam they disrupt the peace of residents who stay near the facility.
It is unacceptable that empty beer bottles are thrown everywhere and in some instances there was high levels of noise.
We encourage the police, residents through the Community Police Forum (CPF) and Municipal Law Enforcement to devise plans which will help eliminate antisocial behaviour from a few elements who want to cause trouble.”

Reports flooded in by residents about the noise level and drunk people urinating in front of houses.
Capt Eddie Hall, media spokesperson for the Witbank Police said that no request for spring festivities was arranged with the police prior to Saturday, September 1.
“This means that all the events happened spontaneously and the police was notified of this, hence the police activity in the area. Klipfontein Dam is seen as a park and therefore rules must be visible outside on a board, like at Witbank Dam. The bylaws must also be visible here. As soon as this is done by the municipality, the police can start treating it like Witbank Dam. We thank the municipality for erecting the fence but do request the signage being displayed outside. Fines can be issued and arrests can be made here, as soon as the above board and rules are in order. We will patrol with law enforcement.”
