Thieves target foreign owned shops

The value of all the items taken is R14 560.

In the past months there have been several business robberies in the Vosman policing area.

Foreign shops are easy targets as the robbers know that they keep their money in their shops.

In the first case which was reported at Ferrobank when a 37 year-old security guard reported that he was on duty inside the guard room when four armed suspects robbed the business.

They took away 32 computer screens, three truck batteries, a hard drive, a camera accessories box and cell phone worth a total of R150 000.

No arrest was made.

Another business robbery was reported at KwaGuqa in Extension 18 in Empumelelweni.

In a third robbery, Mafutha Supermarket at Vosman was robbed of R400 in cash by three armed suspects. One suspect known as Amen Skwaba 36 years-old, in still in custody, he will appear again on Tuesday, April 3.

In yet another business robbery, an Ethiopian national reported that his shop at KwaGuqa in Empumelelweni Extension 16 had been robbed by two armed suspects.

The robbers took R4 500 in cash, a Samsung J1 and Nokia cell phones. The suspects then fled the scene on foot.

In another business robbery case, a 31 year-old shop owner reported that his shop was robbed.

Three unknown suspects, one of them armed, took with them R4 000 in cash, airtime and cigarettes.

The value of all the items taken is R14 560.

The suspects also fled the scene on foot.

On Monday, February 19 at about 18:45 an Ethiopian national was also robbed at gunpoint by two suspects at KwaGuqa in Extension 11.

He told the police that while he was inside his shop one of the suspects entered while the other remained outside. They then robbed him of R1 500 in cash and his car keys.

No arrest made yet.

Robbers struck again at Isivinini Mine on Friday, February 23 at about 02:10.

A security officer reported that he was approached by two suspects who pointed a firearm at him and demanded the office keys.

The suspects then opened the office and took away four batteries, four keys and a generator and then fled the scene. The value of all the items is R20 000.

The case is still under investigation and asking community to work together with SAPS if they have any information which could lead to an arrest. No arrest made yet.

The broken steel door of Mr Abdinur Ismail Mohammed’s shop in Vosman. Thieves broke into the shop to gain entry in this third break-in.

Mr Abdinur Ismail Mohammed of Masha General Dealer said that the break-ins are a big loss to his business.

“It takes a lot of effort to build a business and take where it is now and people just came to take your goods and money. I am not happy about the break-ins because also every time there are protests people take goods from the shop. I always open cases every time there is a break-in but no is arrested,” stated Mr Mohammed.

Constable Khomotso Maluleke Vosman Police Station corporate communication official says the police are asking the community and shop owners to work together with police, closing their tuck shops early to prevent business robbery.

If community members see a group of unknown males at their places walking like they don’t know where they are going, or looking suspicious, they can report to police immediately so that the police assist.

If there is any information to lead the investigation community are allowed to report and they will stay anonymous.
