Selling of fireworks legalised

Despite fights put up by the public and the SACCW (South African Community Crime Watch), the selling of fireworks were legalised by the Emalahleni Local Municipality.

Despite fights put up by the public and the SACCW (South African Community Crime Watch), the selling of fireworks were legalised by the Emalahleni Local Municipality.

It was previously stated in the WITBANK NEWS that a meeting was held with the eight permit holders and the selling and discharging of fireworks was banned.

Afterwards, it was taken up with the municipality again and the acting municipal manager, Mr Sizwe Mayisela legalised only the selling of fireworks.

WITBANK NEWS received a supporting document of this. It was stated in a letter dated December 22.

The signed document from the municipality stating that it is indeed legal to sell fireworks

“It is still illegal to discharge fireworks in the Emalahleni Local Municipality area even though it may be sold now. We fought this because of the animals and elderly who this is affecting negatively. We will continue this fight in the new year and we will ensure that this decision is not overturned again. Before anyone can buy stock, we will have this bylaw passed,” said Ms Maureen Scheepers from the SACCW.

We would also like the opinion and comment from the public on this issue.
