It always seems like the right thing to do when you see a person standing next to the road asking for a lift. You could be doing a good thing, but you never know who you are picking up.
On Friday, December 1 at 19:10 Mr Nkosingiphile Maseko alleged that he was driving on the N12 towards eMalahleni.
He noticed that three unknown men were standing next to the road, so he decided to give them a lift.
The hitch hiker who was sitting in the passenger seat said he will need to get off at the Ogies bridge.
As they continued driving along the highway, all of a sudden the passenger in the back seat grabbed Maseko around the neck and started to strangle him.
The passenger then told Maseko to start cooperating. The car was stopped next to the highway, and the suspects tied Maseko’s hands together with his shoe laces and then dropped him off next to the Abor off ramp.
Now that Maseko’s hands were tied and he was left in the dark, the suspects drove off with his black Toyota.
“You must not give strangers a lift, even though you think you are doing the right thing, it’s not always the right thing to do,” said Sergeant David Ratau, spokesperson from Witbank Police Station.
