Another hit for G4S Cash-in-Transit (CIT) occurred in eMalahleni and the robbers got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The heist that occurred on November 6 had residents in and around the city abuzz as false rumours of guards being killed, spread like wild fire.
Spokesperson for Legacy Emergency Specialist who attended the scene, Mr Phillip du Plessis quickly hushed the rumours and stated that,
“no person was killed during the incident but there were two G4S security guards transported by us to the nearest hospital for trauma.”
The South African Community Crime Watch (SACCW) quickly joined hands and started to regulate traffic while the SAPS blocked off the scene.
“SACCW is always willing to assist SAPS in the fight against crime whether it is just securing a scene until they arrive to directing traffic until after the scene has been finalised,” Mr David Wessels from the SACCW added.
According to police sources the suspects, who were travelling in two vehicles, a white Volkswagen minibus and a blue Volkswagen Polo, opened fire on the CIT vehicle with security guards in it.

They forced it to stop then held the guards at gunpoint, forcing them out of the vehicle and took the cash before fleeing the scene. No one was injured during the shooting.
Police have launched a manhunt for about eight men who allegedly shot at and robbed the cash-in-transit van.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma condemned the incident and appealed to members of the community to volunteer information as incidences of this nature are not only criminal, but also cause serious disturbances in the life of law-abiding citizens.
The incident filled the air with trauma as people scattered to safety. They looked on from a distance as the heist unfolded.
A 73-year old lady, Ms Daleen Fourie was one of these unlucky residents.
“I was driving towards the garage near the scene and suddenly there was a big truck in front of me so that I could not see what actually was happening. Then shots started to go off around me and I thought, oh my word they are shooting towards me,” said Fourie in a panic.
