Wat-er waste of water

Mr Malcolm Be Astrui has been without water for at least two weeks now thanks to a stolen water meter.

His water meter, situated outside his home in French Street, was stolen during the first week of October.

“I reported it stolen to Mr Anthonie Britz on Friday October 6, he came back to me several times, however nothing had been done by the municipality,” he said.

He contacted the Emalahleni Municipality on Tuesday October 10 and was told that a van would be sent out to inspect the issue, yet there was no sign of the van or municipal officials or contractors.

“Last Friday I phoned Clive Hatch who also looked into the matter; its thousands of litres of water being wasted down the street,” he said.

In attempts to curb the water wastage, Be Astrui asked his garden worker to assist him in blocking the pipe. They managed to minimise the wasted water but the pipe is still leaking.

“I have been borrowing water from friends just so I can flush the toilet,” he said.

His last contact made with the Emalahleni Municipality was on Tuesday October 17 when he contacted the water department and was referred to another number, which to his surprise, just rang and rang without answer.
