Money scam happening at shopping centres

The public is warned about the latest money scam at shopping centres

The public is warned about the latest money scam happening at shopping centres.

Members of the community are scammed by criminals in picking up “money boxes” that they are dropping inside the paths at shopping centres.

The suspects will drop the money bomb, and then they will point out the money lying on the floor to someone who has just withdrawn money from an ATM. The suspects then enquire as to whether the money belongs to them and when the victims deny the ownership thereof, the suspects will make a suggestion to share the money.

The suspects will then guide the victim into an alley or to a vehicle standing outside the shopping centre. The victim is then held at gunpoint and robbed.

“Please be on the lookout for these money bombs and report such incidents immediately to the centre security and the police station,” warned Witbank Police spokesperson Capt Eddie Hall.
