Pedestrian dies after being hit by a car

The driver tried to swerve the car but it was a little too late

Accidents that took place last week led to the death of two pedestrians. Both incidents took place on the N4 highway.

On Friday, September 15 at 19:00 police attended an accident scene where they found a BMW car that bumped a pedestrian just behind Witbank Police Station. The deceased is a 63-year-old man from Spring Valley.

Earlier in the week on Tuesday, September 12 a white Toyota Quantum hit a pedestrian.

Around 19:00 the 37-year-old driver was with a passenger when they spotted two pedestrians on the highway. The driver explained that he was coming from Klipfontein going to Vosman when he saw the pedestrians crossing the road.

The driver tried to swerve the car but it was a little too late, he hit one of the pedestrians and the man died on scene.

The deceased was wearing black All Stars shoes, short trousers and an orange t-shirt.
The Quantum had a lot of damage.

Witbank Communication Officer, Captain Eddie Hall said pedestrians need to make use of the foot bridges that are found on the highway (behind the bowling club and just after KG Mall) to ensure they are safe at all times.

Capt Hall advised motorists to reduce speed and to exercise caution when driving due to the road works being done on the highway.

“Put your headlights on. Do take note that you must contact the police should you spot a pedestrian on the highway, we can arrest them as they should be making use of the foot bridge instead of placing their lives at risk in that way,” emphasised Capt Hall.

Both matters were taken down at Witbank Police Station as culpable homicide cases.
