The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) in Mpumalanga would like to confirm to the beneficiaries that the agency, from the month of May, has sent sms notification to all beneficiaries targeting those who are affected by funeral policy deductions.

The actual SASSA message reads as follows:

SASSA will be communicating with beneficiaries affected by funeral policy deductions on their grants via SMS and MMS soon. Call 0800 60 10 11 for enquiries.

Beneficiaries must note that this is not a scam and they are being advised to take the sms very seriously.
All those who have funeral policy deductions must visit local SASSA offices to declare their funeral policy and complete the mandate form.

Beneficiaries must come with the following documents
(1) Identity document.

(2) A copy of the signed policy contract.
Regulation 26A of the Regulations states that, the SASSA may allow deductions for funeral insurance or scheme to be made directly from a social grant where the beneficiary of the social grant requests such deduction in writing from SASSA.

In return SASSA may only authorise one deduction for a funeral insurance scheme not exceeding ten percent (10%) of the value of the beneficiary’s grant.

Recipients must be aware that the agency will soon stop all funeral policy deductions that are not declared officially.
