Kidnapped child returned to her family

“She was from Zimbabwe and was our nanny for about two weeks,” said Matlala.

As a parent, one of the worst feelings you could have is the loss of your child, not to death, age or rebellion, but to kidnapping.

Such were the feelings of the Matlala family when their nanny took their nine-month-old child and made a run for it.

The kidnapping took place on Saturday May 20 around mid day at Ridgeview Estate.

“I was riding in Alexandria in a charity ride when I received the call from my wife who was hysterical at the time,” said Mr Tsholofelo Matlala.

Matlala’s wife, Charmaine didn’t go in to work that day as she wasn’t feeling well.

“My wife was in the house when the nanny walked out with our child without telling her where she was going. My wife confronted her asking her what she was doing,” said Matlala.

At this point the nanny ran out of the estate towards the main gate where she exited the estate heading towards the N4 Highway.

Matlala’s wife came chasing after her, she asked the security at the gate if they had seen her baby, a security guard recalled seeing the nanny leaving the estate with the baby in hand and quickly gave chase to the nanny.

“She was from Zimbabwe and was our nanny for about two weeks,” said Matlala.

The woman who allegedly kidnapped the Matlala’s nine-month-old child.

The security guards chased the woman down to Sagittarius Street where she was confronted and returned the baby to the mother. The nanny made another run for it and was finally apprehended at the traffic circle close to the N4 Business Park.

“She kept running after passing the child to the mother, she looked like she was running toward the highway. We will be opening a case of kidnapping against the woman,” said Mr Lucksol Masango, Frontier Security.

After the chase the nanny was kept under supervision at the estate while security awaited police to come and arrest her.

The Matlala’s rejoiced that their nine-month-old child, Oratilwe, was returned to their arms safe and sound.

“She wasn’t well, something wasn’t right with her,” said Matlala as he pointed to his head.

The following day the nanny was spotted outside Ridgeview Estate once again by a resident, Ms Lindiwe Phakathi.
She wrote on social media

“Strangely she’s back at the gate of the same residences where she stole the child, be on the look out for this lady especially mothers with children/babies. Investigate nannies before you hire them.”
