19 head of cattle were stolen from a farm in Zaaihoek. In December 18 last year a labourer at a farm in Zaaihoek went to check on the stock but found an empty field.
The cattle are worth a substantial amount of money and a case was opened at the Witbank SAPS. However after an independent investigation, it surfaced the several employees of the farm allegedly orchestrated the theft.
It is still unknown how the cattle were stolen but the police arrested one of the suspects and other workers were apparently also implicated although the cattle have not yet been recovered.
There are regularly acts of cruelty involved against the animals in cases of stock theft and when stock is recovered by the police the SPCA is called in to handle the animals accordingly.
