Second hijacking victim assaulted

“As I was approaching my car I saw an Etios coming from the Chicken Licken side of the centre. Five guys came flying at me with R5’s and shotguns,”

Hijackers traded the Etios in for an Evoque, and a bottle of whiskey.

In the second hijacking following the cash in transit heist earlier in the evening of December 7, the suspects hijacked Mr Daniel Mohlala of his Range Rover Evoque at the undercover passage of Saveways Crescent Shopping Centre.

“As I was approaching my car I saw an Etios coming from the Chicken Licken side of the centre. Five guys came flying at me with R5’s and shotguns,” said Mohlala.

The suspects demanded Mohlala to hand over his keys and drive with them.

Mohlala dropped down to the ground as the suspects assaulted him, they searched his pockets and took the keys to his red Evoque from his right pocket, R1 000 from his left pocket, and the bottle of whiskey he had just bought.

“While I was on the floor a man came to my aid, they pointed at him with the guns, security also came running in but were also threatened,” said Mohlala.

While he was lying there he noticed the suspects were loading bags into his Evoque, he wasn’t able to accurately describe the bags.

“One of them said to me – We want your car to get away, police are looking for us, you will get your car back,” he explained.

Once the bags were loaded into the Evoque the suspects fled in the car leaving the gold Toyota Etios and Mohlala behind, they drove off east out through the Nedbank exit of Saveways Crescent.

“I was there yesterday around 19:00 to get some meat at Chicken Licken and some guys forced this other old chap outside his ranger and they took off with it leaving their car behind, the old man ran inside Liquor City so I just left the place fearing for my life cos there was guns involved,” – read a statement on social media.

Mohlala managed to call his wife who came to the scene to be with her husband.

“She was upset, it was a bad experience for us all and everything happened really fast,” said Mohlala.

*The gold Toyota Etios was the first vehicle to be hijacked in eMalahleni following the G4S heist that took place earlier that afternoon between Ga-Nala and Secunda on the R547.
