While the country is still in full swing for the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children an attempted murder case was reported at the Vosman Police Station recently.

The 16 Days of Activism is an international awareness campaign. It takes place every year from November 25 (international day for the elimination of violence against women) to December 10 (international human rights day). This period includes Universal Children’s Day and World AIDS Day.

This year’s 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children Campaign is important because it commemorates many milestones. The year 2014 marks 60 years since the signing of the Women’s Charter on 17 April 1954 in Johannesburg; 20 years of freedom and democracy in South Africa and 16 years of the 16 Days of Activism Campaign.

The police reported that Ms Ayanda Nhlabathi (31) of Ackerville reported that on Sunday, December 4 at about 08:15 she was shot by her boyfriend. She alleged that her boyfriend Madodonke Mahaye found her washing dishes in the kitchen and started insulting her calling her a prostitute. He took her cell phone and smashed it on the floor then she ran to the neighbour’s house to call her father.

When her father arrived the suspect fired a shot towards them and drove away. She also stated that she had a protection order against the boyfriend.
No arrests has been made and police are investigating a case of attempted murder.
