Top honours for three local Moths

Great was the surprise when Moths Albert Myburg, Pieter Human and Chris Sonnekus were placed on orders by the MOTH Platinum Provincial Old Bill, Moth Stuart Howie at the recent MOTH Platinum Monthly Provincial meeting.

The meeting was held at the Coalfields Dugout on Sunday, February 23.

The most sought after MOTH Certificate for Excellent Service, being the second highest award in the Order, was awarded to Moths Albert Myburg, for outstanding management and innovation as Old Bill of Gondar Shellhole (Middelburg), Moth Pieter Human for incomparable financial management at Coalfields District and Moth Chris Sonnekus for remarkable effort and credible management as Old Bill of Crater Shellhole.

Representatives from all six districts within Platinum Province as well as local Moths from eMalahleni and Middelburg were present at the event.

During the proceedings Moth Chris Sonnekus delivered a short presentation on General Jan Christiaan Smuts. Field Marshall J.C. Smuts astonished the world in World War II when he was appointed second in Command next to Churchill in the Imperial war Cabinet.

‘Oom Jannie’ was also the Prime Minister of the Union of South Africa. He was a quiet and delicate farm boy who only started his schooling at age 12 to explode with brilliance, finishing primary and secondary school in only five years and obtaining two degrees within three years at university.
