Municipality responds to resort concerns

Emalahleni Local Municipality has issued a statement in response to last week’s article regarding the condition of the Witbank Dam resort.

The community remembers better days when the resort was the first choice to go for a weekend away.

Lebo Mofokeng, spokesperson for the local municipality, said: “We acknowledge concerns raised by our visitors and wish to assure them that the resort is receiving attention and much of the work has been done with regard to consultation on the upgrading of the resort.”

Since the article last week visitors have noticed that grass is being cut.  The statement also mentions their commitment to upgrading the chalets and they have apparently commissioned consultants to evaluate cost and workload.

“We are consulting with other external tourism agencies and stakeholders to assist in upgrading the facility,” said Mofokeng.
Regarding the exposed power boxes in the camp areas that could be a danger, the municipality has taken action to ensure visitors’ safety.

“Our safety officer has visited the resort and requested to de-commission the electrical boxes that seem to be a safety hazard,” concluded Mofokeng.
