Vosman police concerned about hijacking trend

They reported that on Tuesday, October 18 at about 19:30 on the N4 Highway Ogies Offramp, a 40 years-old man was robbed of a truck.

Vosman police reported that they are investigating a case of truck hijacking.

They reported that on Tuesday, October 18 at about 19:30 on the N4 Highway Ogies Offramp, a 40 years-old man was robbed of a truck.

The victim was driving a white Isuzu truck registration (DY 68 TV GP) valued at R705 000, he was with his crew while driving the company truck.

The complainant stopped the truck at the off ramp as his crew wanted to relieve themselves. They were approached by three unknown suspects who pointed them with a firearm and demanded everything they had. They took R500 in cash, cell phones and wallets with bank cards. The suspects tied them with shoe laces. No arrest has been made by the police.

The police indicated that they have noticed a trend for the past three months where drivers stop at unsafe, deserted and dark areas. In total seven vehicles have been hijacked in the past three months and it is indicated that they follow the same system of operations.

“Crime prevention caution refers to actions to prevent incidents of crime as a prerogative or prevention measure for consideration,” said Captain Klaas Maloka, Vosman Police Station communication officer.

At the same time Captain Maloka reported that they started with their crime prevention operations.
Their aim is crime prevention aimed at reducing incidents of crime by Vosman CPF and SAPS members. The operations yielded the following results pertaining to punitive measures to solve crime.

Three suspects were arrested for contravene of a court order, five for house breaking and theft, two for house robbery, one for business robbery, four for possession of stolen property, five for common robbery, one for warrant of arrest, three for theft, one for domestic violence and common assault, eight for assault with grievous body harm and seven for shoplifting. The total number of arrests were 38.
