Red Ants seeing red in Phola land invasion

Since last week the Phola area was characterised by violent protest and land invasion, petrol bombing at the Phola Offices and a number of newly built RDP houses and the damaging of a further more than 50 houses.

“Intensive negotiations between the SAPS, affected community groups, municipality and the affected land owners took place and the situation has been stabilised although it’s still fragile. Further discussions to deal with valid land and housing issues are continuing,” continued the report.

This report follows a situation at Phola following demonstrations on Monday October 3 after some people invaded land.

It was reported that following removals of few shacks which were erected illegally on three farms in Phola. The land invasion occurred in the early hours of the morning after a group was prevented from an attempt to attack a specific house and petrol bombed the Phola offices after overpowering a guard, two offices were damaged according to the report.

Further instigation of the community by a group was also reported.
