Little boy attacked by dogs

Nhlonipho Mzimela was playing with his older brother and cousins at Extension seven when the dogs came.

What was meant to be a fun day for the five year old boy turned sour when the little one was bitten by dogs.
The incident took place on the morning of Sunday, August 28 where Nhlonipho Mzimela was playing with his older brother and cousins at Extension seven when the dogs came.

It is alleged that he was bitten by three dogs that usually roam around the streets of the Duvha extensions.

“They love walking around the area and I have chased them away numerous times but they keep on coming back, I do not know what I must do now. For some reason they always come back,” said a concerned Sphiwe Mzimela, the little boy’s father

When the dogs started barking and approaching the group of children they all managed to run away leaving the youngest one Nhlonipho behind, who unfortunately could not run as fast as the others.

“I went as far as Extension two trying to find the owner of the dogs to no success.” The residents of the area said they are aware of these dogs but doubt they have owners,” said Mzimela.

The boy was taken to Life Cosmos Private Hospital where he was admitted and sent to theatre around 17:00 and by 06:30 he was out of the room.

His injuries included being bitten on his hands and at the lower part of his back. Mzimela extends his gratitude to the man that rescued his son, stating that it could have probably been worse if the man was not around to offer a helping hand to his son.

He further states that the dog’s body structures are something he is most worried about as they are huge. He hopes this will raise awareness to the parents that live in the area where their children often play on the street with their peers.
When the man returned from hospital around 23:30 on Sunday from visiting his son he spotted the very same dogs on the street again.

Mzimela on Tuesday morning went to visit the little boy in hospital where he said his son is feeling and looking so much better. I hope he stays that way judging from what we are seeing he is recovering well and hope he will be discharged soon. We cannot wait for him to get back home,” said Mzimela.
His attempt in speaking up is to try and raise awareness to other residents to be safe and be alert at all times because of these dogs.

“I feel like they are a dangerous species, today it’s my child and tomorrow could be another person’s child. It is sad that children will not be able to play freely on the streets for some time because of this incident,” said a concerned Mzimela.
