Another case of stock theft was reported to the police where a farmer from Kraanspoort had three cattle go missing from his farm. The incident was reported to the police on May 18.
His brother apparently located one of the stolen cattle tied up and the helpless animal had it’s ankles cut to prevent it from running very far. Usually the thieves do not bother to feed or provide water for the animals.
Usually a case of negligent damage to property, including stock theft will be opened at the SAPS however the law is very clear on the mistreatment of animals, even livestock. The SPCA usually collaborates with the police when stolen stock is tracked down however they commented recently by saying that this does not happen very often.
An example of how they cut the ankles of the cattle from a recovery on the Verena Road on 2014.
The farmer discovered his missing cattle on May 21, however they where already slaughtered and only their carcasses was left behind.
