In 2015 ATM bombings cost banks over R40 million according to business tech. And the negative impact is not just financial. People can be injured or killed. It affects the bank’s customers and the convenience an ATM provides and negatively impacts the business or shopping centre where the ATM is located according to a study done by Sarika Sewpersad for the University of South Africa.

Charges in terms of section 22(2) of the Explosives Act 15 of 2003 can be very severe. However since nothing was taken the Vosman police has opened a case of malicious damage to property for the initial investigation. No arrests have yet been made.
