On Tuesday, April 12 it’s alleged that some suspects were arrested at about 10:15 near Ga-Nala Municipality with a bag full of copper to the value of R15 000.

Two days before on Sunday, April 10 at approximately 10:40 two suspects were arrested for possession of stolen property of copper cable.

The suspects are aged between 28 and 33 years old, the value of copper that was in their possession was R500.
Last year the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SACCI) released how much copper theft has taken place in South African.

Copper theft amounted to R13.6 million from March 2014 to April 2015. This year’s statistics have not yet been released.
SACCI communication officer Mr Tshidi Maotshe said;

“the copper theft volume indicator increased to 179 metric tonnes in April 2015 from 173 metric tonnes in March 2014.”
