Police are investigating a case of murder and another of attempted murder after a policeman shot at officials from the Sheriff's Office.

According to a report from the provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, the officials were escorted to the house of a policeman to serve him with an eviction order.

The incident happened in KwaGuqa Extension 7 on Wednesday, March 23 at about 09:00.

It is said that after their arrival they knocked at the door and after getting no response they went ahead to try other means to open the locked door. They attempted to remove the burglar door and while occupied, the policeman started shooting at them.

One of the men was shot in the chest and stomach while the other was shot in his arm. The policeman went back into the house and a moment later a gunshot was heard.

Police called for back up and went into the house where they found the suspect with a shot wound to the head. He had apparently shot himself.

Police officials begin their investigations on scene, police have opened up two cases, one for murder and another for attempted.

According to information gathered the suspect was supposed to have vacated the house in January 2014 after falling behind in bond payments. It is also stated that he was staying alone.

All three injured were taken to Life Cosmos Hospital, with the suspect under police guard.

It was later reported that one of the casual workers from the Sheriff’s Office, Mr Tshepo Mashego passed away on the same day. Another casual worker Mr Victor Mashonola sustained injury to his hand and was discharged the same day.

The suspect Warrant Officer Alfred Mphahlela died at about 21:00 that evening.
